Founded in 1973 as a vineyard company, Sonoma-Cutrer has a long-standing reputation of craftsmanship. Its uncommon attention to detail and exceptional quality caused demand for its grapes to grow quickly. Based on that early success, its founders assembled a group of world-renowned, forward-thinking experts to develop a state-of-the-art winery. The winery's inaugural vintage was introduced in 1981 and, in its own unique way, influenced California Chardonnay as we know it today. The foundation of Sonoma-Cutrer's success lies in its unique blending of Old World Burgundian tradition with New World American ingenuity. Burgundian wines are known for their uncompromising methods of vineyard management, grape oversight and cellar maturation. These principles are rigorously applied at Sonoma-Cutrer as well. Married with American imagination and deep knowledge of the Sonoma County terroir, it results in wines of distinction. Wines that are unlike any other. Today, Sonoma-Cutrer is best known for world-class Chardonnays, each reflecting the character of the region and the craft of the winemaker. Pinot Noir, the other classic grape of fine French Burgundies, was added in 2002, further showcasing the winery's unique skills and craftsmanship.
